Description

Day 1: Cusco – Ocongate – Upis – Ausangate 7 Lakes Trek – Cusco We will start your adventure early, picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 3:00 AM. From there, we’ll embark on a scenic 3-hour drive—two hours on a paved road and one hour on a rustic dirt road—through picturesque Andean valleys and small traditional villages. Our destination is Pacchanta, a charming highland community located at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) near the majestic Ausangate Mountain, one of the most sacred peaks in the Andes. Upon arrival in Pacchanta, we’ll enjoy a nutritious breakfast prepared with local ingredients to fuel up for the trek ahead. After breakfast, we’ll begin our hike toward the famous Seven Ausangate Lakes, a route filled with spectacular views of glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and vast Andean plains. The trail begins with a gradual ascent that quickly rewards us with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. You’ll notice locals wearing traditional Quechua attire, herding llamas and alpacas along the trails, giving you a glimpse into the authentic Andean lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, we’ll arrive at the first lagoon, Azulcocha, whose turquoise waters reflect the towering Ausangate Glacier. From this point, we’ll continue on to a panoramic viewpoint, perfect for capturing breathtaking photos of the lake and surrounding landscapes. As we continue, you’ll visit a series of seven unique lagoons—each with its own distinct color and beauty. The most notable are Pucacocha (Red Lake), Patacocha, Alqacocha, Qomercocha, Orco Otorongo, and China Otorongo, which together form one of the most striking high-altitude landscapes in Peru. The vibrant colors of these lakes—ranging from deep blue to emerald green—are caused by varying mineral and algae compositions in the water. Along the trail, you may spot Andean wildlife, such as vicuñas, vizcachas, and a variety of native birds. If you visit during the rainy season, you might even experience snowfall, transforming the scenery into a magical, white wonderland. After exploring all the lakes, we will return to Pacchanta, where you can relax in the natural hot springs while enjoying stunning views of the Ausangate Mountain. The thermal waters are rich in minerals and are believed to have healing properties—an ideal way to rejuvenate your body after the hike. We’ll then have a delicious lunch prepared by our local cook, featuring regional specialties made from fresh ingredients. Afterward, we’ll board our private transport for the return trip to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 PM, marking the end of this unforgettable day surrounded by Andean beauty.
