Sightseeing Tour: Cusco – Huayopata – Cocoa Experience
Pick-up from Cusco – 4:00 a.m.
The day begins with pickup from your hotel or Airbnb in Cusco at 4:00 AM. From there, we will travel to Huayopata.
Arrival in Huayopata and local breakfast
Upon arrival, the Cárdenas family will welcome us to their estate. Before starting the tour, we'll enjoy a breakfast prepared with local produce.
Tour of the cocoa plantations
After breakfast, we'll begin the tour of the plantations. We'll learn about the different varieties of cocoa grown in Huayopata, including Chuncho cocoa, a traditional variety from the area.
We'll also learn about the cultivation process and be able to take part in harvesting the fruits directly from the plants. During this part of the visit, we'll have the chance to taste fresh cocoa and discover the flavor of its pulp.
Learning about the cocoa process
We'll continue to learn what happens to the cocoa after harvest. The family will show us in a practical way the main stages of the process: fermentation, drying, roasting, and grinding.
At the end, we'll be able to taste the product prepared from the beans and learn about the entire process, from harvest to consumption.
Tour of other crops
If time permits, we'll visit other areas of the farm, where we can find mangoes, citrus fruits, peppers, ornamental plants, and different species grown by the family.
Local lunch and return to Cusco
Drop-off in Cusco will be after lunch. Any additional stops along the way will depend on the time available and prior coordination.
