Description
We'll pick you up from your hotel around 8:00 a.m. and head to the Moray Agricultural Laboratory. This beautiful trip lasts approximately one hour and 20 minutes. During the drive, you'll see the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, lush fields of yellow wheat, and several villages. Finally, you'll arrive at the fascinating Moray Terraces. Moray features three amphitheater-shaped terraces built by the Incas. These terraces, dug deep into the earth in a bowl-like shape, were believed to be used to determine optimal growing conditions. After completing your exploration of Moray,
you'll head approximately three kilometers away to the Maras Salt Mines. This village is known as an ancient center of salt production and is believed to date back to the pre-Inca era. There are more than 3,000 salt pits dug into the mountainside, which are filled daily by a stream. This spectacular area is perfect if you're looking for something different from archaeological sites.
Chinchero is a small Andean indigenous village located at 3,762 meters above sea level, on the windswept Anta Plains, about 30 km from Cusco. It offers beautiful views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the Vilcabamba mountain range and the snow-capped Salkantay Mountains dominating the western horizon. Chinchero is believed to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Its main tourist attraction is its colorful Sunday market, much less crowded than the one in Pisac. This market is held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, but if your trip doesn't coincide with one of these days, there is a small textile center open daily. There you can see a demonstration of how the beautiful natural alpaca wool sweaters are made. Finally, you can visit the famous Roman Catholic church, built on top of the Inca palace. After the visit, you will return to the city in time to enjoy lunch on your own.
