best meal in peru so far. the food was delicious, service was excellent and the energy of the place was so so nice.. food came out extremely fast as well. we had the trout ceviche which was certainly a highlight for us! the presentation of the dishes were incredible 10/10 i wish i was staying longer just to spend another evening in this beautiful place ❤️
We did an early morning ticket time to Machu Picchu, so by the time we came back down to Aguas Calientes around 11:00am, we were hungry. Our guide recommended Chef House. When our group of six arrived for lunch, there was only one other group of six already seated in the restaurant. They kindly offered us complimentary mini pisco sours, but they took a really long time to arrive (which is fine... they were free after all). When we ordered our food, however, it also took an incredibly long time for the food to arrive. We had to ask about it several times, which is odd since at least half of us only had soup. When the food finally did arrive, the pasta dishes were cold (not lukewarm... cold), and the soups were lukewarm. At that point, we had waited so long and we were so tired, we didn't even want to bother with it. We paid our bill and left. As we left, we noticed more guides bringing their groups to the restaurant for lunch. I'm not really sure what the "arrangement" is for this, but I will say that we felt let down by the fact that our guide had recommended this restaurant, and it was a really poor experience. Maybe it was just an 'off' day or they were missing someone from the kitchen, but for the price we paid, we deserved warm food. I will say that the view from the restaurant is AMAZING! Being right above the river is a relaxing view for sure.
We had an excellent experience at Chef House Machu Picchu. Diego gave us outstanding service from start to finish. He was welcoming, attentive, patient, and made sure our table was taken care of the entire time. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every dish came out looking amazing, and the flavors matched the presentation. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and the service made the meal even better. A special thank you to Diego for making our visit memorable. Great food, great hospitality, and great energy. I would definitely recommend Chef House to anyone visiting Machu Picchu.
The servers are extremely friendly. Big thank you to our server Jhon. We ordered the Lomo, alpaca skewer, ceviche and aji de gallina. All were absolutely delicious. The alpaca was the least favorite among my group of 4, but it was a food we wanted to experience. Highly recommend their pisco sours(local drink specialty)and mojitos!
Tried guinea pig here for the first time, and it was highly recommended by our guideand we’re glad we did. The roasted cuy was huge (way bigger than expected) and surprisingly flavorful. Just be prepared: there are lots of tiny bones, so it’s definitely a slower, pick-through kind of meal. The balcony seating by the river is incredibly refreshing and makes the whole experience even better. They also have a fantastic non-alcoholic menu with unique local fruit combinations, perfect if you just want to relax and try something different. Definitely worth a stop after Machu Picchu and want an authentic experience.
