09:00 AM / 2:00 PM – Departure towards the Ruta del Sillar.
Your journey begins with a scenic ride to the famous sillar quarries, where your guide will introduce you to the history of Arequipa and the importance of this unique white volcanic stone.
The first stop is the Añashuayco quarry, reached after approximately 45 minutes. Here, you will explore a spectacular canyon with massive white stone walls shaped by centuries of extraction. You will learn how sillar is formed, extracted, and used in the construction of the city.
During your visit, you will interact with local artisans and watch a live demonstration of traditional carving techniques. You may also have the opportunity to try shaping the stone yourself, making this a truly hands-on cultural experience.
