Description
Take in sweeping panoramic views of Misti volcano and the White City from the Carmen Alto viewpoint, one of Arequipa's most scenic elevated stops. Bilingual interpretive signage (English and Spanish) helps you identify Misti, Chachani and every district and landmark stretched out below — no guide needed.
The site sits on the original grounds of the Harvard Boyden Station, the astronomical observatory that operated in Arequipa in the early 20th century. The historic building still stands on-site and can be admired from the outside, along with a commemorative plaque marking its scientific legacy in the southern hemisphere. (Interior access is not available.)
A single ticket also gives you access to two on-site museums: the Museum of the War of the Pacific, dedicated to the conflict between Peru and Chile, and the Macroworld Museum, which showcases pieces and content from the Arequipa province.
Walk through the gardens and get close to the resident alpacas and llamas — you can feed them and take photos, a moment especially loved by families and travelers looking for a genuine encounter with Andean wildlife.
A calm, self-guided stop that brings together views, history, culture and nature in one visit.
