Description

Amaru is not a tourist stop: it's a living community in the Sacred Valley where every sol you pay goes directly to the families who welcome you. On this half-day private tour, you climb to 3,800 m to experience a real day with the people of Amaru, far from the mass tourism circuits of Pisac or Chinchero. We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and travel along the Ruta del Barroco Andino (Andean Baroque Route), stopping at the Q'enco archaeological complex before reaching the community. There, a professional bilingual (Spanish/English) tour guide accompanies you while the women of Amaru teach you how to spin and dye wool with plants and cochineal, and how to weave on a waist loom as it was done centuries ago. Then you join the day's agricultural work using traditional Inca tools, and you learn how to prepare an Andean dish with products from the farm that you later share with the host family. You finish with music, rituals, and the Quechua hospitality that makes Amaru a different kind of destination. A day to travel with purpose.
