Description

This 2-day, 1-night group tour from Puno takes you across Lake Titicaca — the world's highest navigable lake — to visit three islands, each with its own character and traditions. A bilingual English–Spanish guide accompanies you throughout. Day 1: Board a motorboat to the Uros Floating Islands, where the Uru people have built their homes on layers of totora reed for centuries. Walk on the spongy island surface, watch how families harvest and weave the reeds, and hear firsthand how they maintain this way of life on the water. From here, a three-hour cruise brings you to Amantaní Island, where a Quechua family welcomes you into their home. After a rustic lunch prepared with local ingredients, hike to the island's peak (~4,130 m) to visit the sacred temples of Pachamama and Pachatata. Stay for sunset — from up here, the lake stretches endlessly into Bolivia and the sky turns deep orange over the water. Back at your host family's home, dinner is followed by a folkloric dance night where locals and travelers share music, costumes, and a few laughs on the dance floor. Day 2: After breakfast with your hosts, take a short boat ride to Taquile Island. A hike along stone pathways leads to the main plaza, where you'll find artisans crafting handwoven textiles — a tradition recognized by UNESCO. Browse the village market and watch weavers at work before sitting down for lunch with panoramic lake views, featuring fresh trout pulled from Titicaca's waters. Afterward, descend the ancient stone steps to the pier and board the boat back to Puno, arriving mid-afternoon (around 3 PM). Three islands, two days, and one night sleeping at 3,800 meters on a lake that feels more like an inland sea.

Important Information

  • Accommodation on Amantaní is basic — expect a simple room with a bed and several heavy blankets, shared toilets, and no hot water or showers. Meals are homemade Andean fare: quinoa soup, potatoes, rice, eggs, and oca — hearty but simple. The hike to the hilltop temples is uphill and takes about 1 hour at 4,130 m elevation, so decent physical fitness is recommended. If you'd rather skip the climb, you can explore the lower parts of the island at your own pace, or hire a motorcycle taxi from local villagers for around 20 soles (~$5 USD) — arranged directly on the island. Bring warm layers for mornings and evenings on the lake, rain gear if traveling October–April, trekking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle. Energy bars or snacks are helpful for the longer walks. If you have heavy luggage, ask your hotel in Puno to store it — you'll only need a small backpack for the overnight stay.
