Description

The Uros floating islands sit about 30 minutes by boat from Puno's port — close enough for a half-day visit, yet a world apart from anything on the mainland. Built entirely from layered totora reeds, these islands have been home to the Uros people for centuries, and visiting them is one of the most distinctive experiences on Lake Titicaca. We'll pick you up from your hotel in central Puno and head to the port, where you'll board a comfortable motorboat with panoramic windows for the ride out across the lake. As the city fades behind you and the open water stretches toward the Andes on the horizon, your bilingual guide (Spanish/English) will begin sharing the story of how these islands came to exist — and why they're still here. You'll visit two islands. On the first — the main community island — you'll walk through the families' homes and learn how the islands are built, maintained, and re-layered with fresh reeds. Locals will show you their traditions and daily routines firsthand, and if you'd like, you can dress in traditional Uros clothing for a photo. The second island is a more relaxed stop with wooden lookout platforms offering wide views across Titicaca. Grab a snack, browse handmade crafts, or get your passport stamped with the Uros seal — a small but memorable keepsake. An optional ride on a traditional totora reed boat is available on the islands for around 20 soles per person, paid directly to the families who built it. Three departures run daily at 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 3:00 PM, each lasting approximately 3 hours. Pick whichever fits your day.
