This tour visits the archaeological tomb site of the Quechua people at Sillustani, near Puno, suitable for history and culture enthusiasts.
After hotel pickup in Puno, take a 50-minute drive to Sillustani, located on the shore of Lake Umayo. The site offers well-preserved ruins and excellent photo opportunities.
At the archaeological site, your bilingual guide explains pre-Inca culture through the Aymara burial towers, called chullpas, which differ architecturally from Inca tombs. You will learn about the 15th-century incorporation of this culture into the Inca Empire.
See the tall burial towers, some reaching 12 meters, decorated with painted animal symbols. You will also learn about the ancient Waru Waru farming technique developed during the Tiwanaku Empire.
The tour includes a visit to Atuncolla village, home to the Collas people, before returning to Puno.
