Description

Day 1:
Begin with pickup from Puerto Maldonado main office (Fauna Slow Coffee). Your guide will meet you there with a sign bearing your name. Around noon, travel by car or boat to the jungle house on the Tambopata River. After checking into your cabin and lunch, depart at 3:30 pm for your first jungle walk along the riverbank. Enjoy views from a natural lookout point and observe the sunset before a night hike, with opportunities to see tarantulas, snakes, poison dart frogs, and night monkeys.

Day 2:
Starting around 9 am, take a 2.5-hour river excursion to spot three-toed sloths and caimans. Around midday, continue by boat to Lake Sandoval within the Tambopata Reserve. The area is rich in monkeys, birds, black caimans, and giant river otters. Afternoon timing offers cooler weather and increased wildlife activity. Return on foot along a 3 km trail to enjoy a sunset over the Madre de Dios River, concluding around 6:30 pm.

Day 3:
Depart at 9:15 am by river toward the Machiguenga community, descendants of pre-Inca culture. Observe capybaras en route and learn about local culture and sustainable tourism at the native house. At 3:30 pm, travel by car (37 minutes) to a community-managed wetland near Santa Teresa, a habitat for nesting parrots, yellow-faced macaws, large catfish, and yellow-bellied piranhas.

Day 4:
Before checkout at 9 am, participate in an early morning (5:25–7:15 am) clay lick visit to see small green parrots and macaws feeding. By 10 am, return to the main office for airport or bus station transfer, concluding the tour.

Check-in is at noon and check-out is at 9:00 am. Itineraries may vary slightly depending on the guide.

Important Information

• The accommodation is a jungle house on the Tambopata River shore, 27 minutes from the airport and near the National Reserve.
• Breakfast is not included on the first day; if arriving by bus before 9:30 am, a recommended breakfast spot and taxi service are provided.
• Check-in begins at 12:30 pm; check-out is at 9:00 am.
• If you have a late departure on the last day, you can store luggage at the Slow Coffee bar in town while exploring nearby areas.
• Pickup to the main office starts at 8:15 am; transport from the main office to the jungle house leaves at 12:00 pm.
