Description
Day 1:
Start with a 7:00 am hotel pickup. Stop in Ollantaytambo for shopping and breakfast. Continue to Abra Malaga (4,350 m) and begin the downhill bike ride to Huamanmarca. Transfer to Santa Maria, with optional rafting on the Vilcanota River. Settle into a hostel for lunch, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2:
Depart at 6:30 am after breakfast to hike the cloud forest, passing coca, coffee, cacao, and native fruit plantations. Rest at Pispitayoq family house. Follow an ancient Inca path to Qellomayu village for lunch. Hike 3 more hours to the Vilcanota river, cross a monkey bridge, and relax at Cocalmayo hot springs. Continue to Santa Teresa for a hostel stay.
Day 3:
Start with a 7:00 am breakfast. Optional zip-lining before walking to the Hydroelectric Central Station for lunch. Continue along the railroad to Aguas Calientes, with views of Machu Picchu Mountain. Arrive around 5:00 pm and check into a hostel with private bathroom and hot showers.
Day 4:
Wake up at 4:00 am to meet your guide and hike or take a bus (extra cost) to Machu Picchu for sunrise. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour, then explore solo with options to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (extra fee, early booking needed). Return to Aguas Calientes by midday. Choose to return to Cusco by walking back to the Hydroelectric Station and then by car (7 hours, cheaper) or by train to Ollantaytambo and then by car (5 hours, more convenient but more expensive). End the trek at your hotel in Cusco.
