Description

ITINERARY DAY 1: Cusco, KM 104 and Machu Picchu We will pick you up early in the morning at the agreed meeting point, from where we will transfer you to the Ollantaytambo train station. Once there, you will take the train for 1.5 hours to KM 104. You will pass through the KM 104 checkpoint, from where you will begin the approximately 3.5-hour hike to Wiñayhuayna. As you ascend you will be able to take photos of the beautiful landscapes, including views of the sacred Wilkanota River and Challabamba. At the Wiñaywayna archaeological site your guide will explain the function of the site, and once you have enjoyed a delicious box lunch you will continue along the classic Inca Trail to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From this spot you will be able to enjoy the beautiful and unforgettable views of the Machu Picchu Citadel, after which you will descend along the trail for approximately one hour to Machu Picchu to enjoy the sunset. From Machu Picchu you will take a bus for 30 minutes to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will be taken to your hotel. You will end the day in the evening with a delicious dinner with your guide. DAY 2: Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu and Cusco After breakfast at your hotel, you will head to Machu Picchu by bus. Inside Machu Picchu you will receive a 2-hour guided tour during which you will learn about the types of amazing constructions, the engineering of the terraces and the most important places in Machu Picchu (including how they were used). When you finish the visit, you will return to Aguas Calientes by bus or by hiking. Once in town, you'll find there's plenty to discover as you explore the shops, crafts and art, and enjoy the hot springs or try new foods. In the afternoon, you'll take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, where you'll meet your driver upon arrival, who will return you to the historic center of Cusco.
