Description
The day starts with an early departure from Cusco, winding through the breathtaking Andean highlands toward the charming village of Checacupe. Here, you’ll discover its historic bridges—spanning Inca, colonial, and republican eras—and learn about the village’s role in the Túpac Amaru II resistance. The journey continues through scenic valleys and remote villages, leading to the base of the vibrant rainbow mountains.
The trek to the viewpoint is an easy, enjoyable ascent, where you’ll pass grazing alpacas and be treated to sweeping panoramas of the colorful peaks. From the summit, three distinct rainbow-hued hills stretch before you, with the majestic Ausangate Glacier (6,372 m / 20,900 ft) standing proudly in the distance. On clear days, the Red Valley appears, its vivid mineral-toned slopes adding to the spectacle. A stop at the nearby rock forest—a remarkable natural formation—offers a final moment for exploration before a tasty local lunch. The return trip to Cusco lets you soak in the Andean scenery one last time, arriving in the late afternoon with memories of a truly unforgettable adventure.
