Description
7:00 a.m. We head to the town of Raqchi, on the banks of the Vilcanota River, in the district of San Pedro de Cacha, province of Canchis. the archaeological site of Raqchi is famous for its temple dedicated to the god Wiracocha. Built on volcanic lava, this imposing site also includes colcas or royal chambers and is located in an area of hills formed by an ancient eruption of the Quinsachata volcano, considered a major huaca. Raqchi was the capital of the Kanchis nation and has a complex of hierarchical religious buildings. Its inhabitants, housed in rectangular and circular enclosures, participated in ceremonies designed to honor the Inca deities and maintain the temple's importance. We then head to the town of TINTA. Along the way, we will appreciate the flora and fauna of four lagoons. This historic town was the scene of the Túpac Amaru II Revolution. We will visit the House of Túpac Amaru II. the Temple of Tinta, dating from the 17th century, whose interior features a main altar in gold leaf, as well as altarpieces and paintings by Diego de la Puente Santos, Francisco Serrano, and Marcos Rivera; the Colonial Bridge of Tinta, built in 1740, has three semicircular arches and a small terrace in the middle with a cross;
Then we will visit the Hacienda del Márquez de San Lorenzo de Valle Umbroso, a large restored mansion that belonged to Rodrigo de Esquivel and his descendants. During the conquest, the Esquivel and Navia families settled in the town of Oropesa. They were the founders of the Marquisate of Valleumbroso de Oropesa and ordered the construction of the famous mansion, which was initially called La Glorieta and later renamed Casa Hacienda Quispicanchis. This mansion stands on a small hill from where you can enjoy one of the best views of the entire valley. It was built on Inca walls, displaying Spanish architectural ostentation. Its construction is made entirely of stone, and its large doorways, arches, long balcony, and a circular staircase leading to the central courtyard, which was decorated with French and Italian fountains and sculptures, are particularly attractive.
The hacienda was a true rural palace, where the most important personalities from Spain were received and important gatherings full of luxury were held. It is said that the Marquis was a correspondent for Voltaire and, because of his power over the Indians, they accused him of exploiting them and wanting to crown himself king. The stables and the employees' quarters are isolated from the main buildings. The house is currently being restored by the National Institute of Culture of Cusco, which has recovered and treated murals, altarpieces, and abundant stonework used in the construction. It was declared a National Cultural Heritage Site on March 8, 1991.
