Description
This tour begins with a hike to the Temple of the Moon, an Inca ceremonial site carved into rock, associated with fertility rituals and astronomical observation. The site features sculpted figures of sacred animals such as snakes, monkeys, and pumas, and has an internal cavity where offerings were made. The trail passes through Andean landscapes with panoramic views of Cusco, combining sections of ancient Inca roads with areas of native forest, creating an atmosphere of spiritual and natural connection. The hike is peaceful, ideal for acclimatizing and exploring the city's lesser-known archaeological surroundings on foot.
The route then continues to Inkilltambo, a restored complex that was an agricultural and ceremonial center, with irrigation canals, platforms, terraces, and storage areas carefully integrated into the terrain. This site shows how the Incas combined functionality and symbolism in their architecture, surrounded by nature. The trail also passes by the ancient Kallachaka bridge and colonial structures, adding historical layers to the experience. In the final stretch, the trail descends gently through trees and ravines until it reaches the outskirts of Cusco, with sweeping views of the city crowning the experience.
