Description

Begin your adventure with pickup from a central meeting point in Cusco. After a brief safety talk, set off on a scenic journey south to the province of Canchis. Enjoy a beautiful morning drive through small Andean villages like Urcos and Sicuani, with stunning views of valleys and snow-capped peaks. Make a short stop in Sicuani for breakfast, a bathroom break, and to acclimate before continuing to Phinaya (4700 m / 15,420 ft), a small highland village considered the gateway to the Quelccaya Glacier. Upon arrival in Phinaya, take your time to adjust to the altitude, stretch, and prepare for the hike. Your guide will explain the local ecosystem, the environmental significance of the glacier, and safety guidelines for the hike. Begin your 3-hour hike to the majestic Quelccaya Glacier. The trail winds through high Andean terrain, surrounded by colorful mountains, crystal-clear lagoons, and endless skies. Enjoy numerous stops for photos and interpretive talks about glacial landscapes and climate change. No horses or pack animals are used; this is an eco-friendly, low-impact experience. Reach the base of the Quelccaya Glacier, a vast field of ice and snow stretching as far as the eye can see.
