Description
We’ll begin our journey early in the morning, departing Cusco for a scenic 40-minute drive to the charming town of Andahuaylillas. Here, we’ll explore its iconic church—often called the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas.” This stunning 17th-century masterpiece is renowned for its intricate Cusco-style murals, elaborate wood carvings, gold-leaf baroque altars, and an exceptional collection of colonial paintings.
Our next stop is Pikillacta, one of the few pre-Inca archaeological complexes in the region, built by the Wari civilization over a thousand years ago. As we wander through its expansive network of streets, plazas, and adobe structures, you’ll gain insight into the sophisticated urban planning that long preceded the Inca Empire.
Just a short walk away lies Rumicolca, a mysterious stone structure believed to have served as a ceremonial gateway or control point marking the southern entrance to the Inca realm.
After exploring Rumicolca, we’ll stop for a typical traditional lunch from the region at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy iconic Andean dishes such as cuy chactado, rocoto relleno, pepián de cuy, and other regional specialties.
We’ll then continue to Tipón, an extraordinary showcase of Inca hydraulic and agricultural engineering. Marvel at its precisely carved stone terraces and perfectly functioning irrigation channels—living proof of the Incas’ mastery of water management and farming—before we return to Cusco in the afternoon.
