Description

Your journey begins in the historic city of Cusco (11,152 ft / 3,399 m) as you set out towards the fertile valley of Limatambo. Along the way, you'll visit two fascinating Inca archaeological sites: Quillarumiyoc and Tarawasi, both believed to have served as ceremonial centers and astronomical observatories. These sites showcase the Incas’ advanced understanding of the cosmos and their deep connection with nature. Continuing the route, you will arrive at Limatambo (8,366 ft / 2,550 m), a peaceful village surrounded by lush countryside, where you will enjoy a well-deserved lunch featuring local flavors. The adventure then takes you higher into the Andes as you ascend towards Chonta (11,975 ft / 3,650 m), a picturesque Andean community offering breathtaking views of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. Here, a scenic hike begins, leading you along a trail that skirts the edge of the Apurímac Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. The path is lined with native flora, with occasional glimpses of soaring birds overhead. At the Huaco Viewpoint (11,975 ft / 3,650 m), positioned dramatically above the vast canyon, you will witness one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles: the flight of the Andean Condor. This majestic bird, revered by the Incas as a messenger of the gods, glides effortlessly on thermal currents, displaying its immense wingspan. With luck, you may also spot eagles, hawks, and even the elusive white-tailed deer roaming in the distance. After absorbing the grandeur of the canyon and its wildlife, you will begin your return journey to Cusco, arriving in the evening with memories of a day filled with history, breathtaking landscapes, and the magic of the Andean sky.
