Description

Day 1: Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) – Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.s.l.) – Pilcopata Inn (600 m.a.s.l.) We will depart from Cusco early in the morning in one of our vehicles, traversing captivating valleys nestled between the Andes Mountains and charming rural communities. Our first stop will be to explore pre-Inca tombs from the Lupaca culture, followed by a visit to the colonial town of Paucartambo and its fascinating museum. Lunch will be enjoyed in the cloud forest, where we’ll witness the rich biodiversity, including the Spectacled Bear and the Cock of the Rock, Peru's national bird known for its unique mating display. We will also spot various orchids, bromeliads, and ferns during our descent through the cloud forest until we reach our lodge, Pilcopata Inn, for our first night. Day 2: Pilcopata – Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.a.s.l.) After an early breakfast, we’ll embark on a walk to observe local wildlife, including monkeys and birds. We’ll visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center before heading to Port Atalaya on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River at 500 m.a.s.l. From there, we’ll take a boat ride to admire diverse bird species, such as herons and vultures, until we arrive at Amazon Manu Lodge. After a refreshing swim in the river and a delicious lunch, we’ll visit a swamp area to observe toucans, woodpeckers, and macaws. In the evening, we’ll search for caiman eyes before returning to the lodge for the night. Day 3: Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.a.s.l.) We’ll rise early to head to the macaw clay lick, where various parrot species gather each morning to eat mineral-rich clay. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast. Following our meal, we’ll hike through the forest for 2.5-3 hours, learning about the jungle's fascinating biodiversity from our guide. After lunch, guests can relax at the lodge or take a refreshing swim. There’s also an option for zip-lining through the jungle canopy. In the afternoon, we’ll explore Machuwasi Lake by balsa raft, seeking birds like the prehistoric hoatzin and possibly spotting monkeys and caimans. Later, we’ll enjoy a night walk to discover insects and amphibians before dinner and another night at the lodge. Day 4: Amazon Manu Lodge After an early breakfast, we’ll take a guided hike through the forest to explore the diverse wildlife around the lodge. Following our hike, we’ll return for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll travel two hours downstream to visit hot springs, and in the evening, we’ll embark on a night walk to look for snakes, frogs, insects, and spiders. Day 5: Amazon Manu Lodge – Cusco We’ll wake up early for breakfast at the lodge, then pack up and board our boat back to Port Atalaya, where our bus will be ready to take us back to Cusco. Lunch will be served along the way, with an estimated arrival time in Cusco around 5:30 – 6:30 PM. END OF SERVICE
