Description
Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Pachamama Ceremony – Chontachaca
Start your adventure with an early morning departure from Cusco. Stop in Oropesa to taste traditional Pan Chuta bread, then visit the pre-Inca site of Ninamarca and the colonial village of Paucartambo for breakfast.
Continue to Ajcanaco, the gateway to Manu National Park, and learn about the park’s ecological richness. Descend into the cloud forest and participate in a Pachamama (Mother Earth) ceremony, a symbolic act of spiritual connection and respect for life.
Observe birds, monkeys, and waterfalls as you journey through the lush vegetation. Arrive in Chontachaca by late afternoon and spend the night surrounded by the peace of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 2: Chontachaca – Patria – Atalaya – Aguas Calientes Lodge
After breakfast, visit the Patria market to taste local bananas and tropical fruits. Continue to the port of Atalaya and board a motorized canoe for a 2.5-hour journey along the Madre de Dios River. Stop for a picnic lunch on the riverbank.
Arrive at Aguas Calientes Lodge and hike to the Amaru Mayu waterfall, a sacred site for meditation and an offering to the water. Enjoy a swim in the natural hot spring pools before a night excursion to observe caimans in their natural habitat.
Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick – Cocha Machuwasi – Amazon Lodge
Wake up at dawn to visit a parrot clay lick, where dozens of parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. Return to the lodge for breakfast and some free time to rest or swim in the hot springs.
Navigate back up the Madre de Dios River to the Cocha Machuwasi wetland, a great spot for wildlife and bird observation. Take a short ride on a traditional wooden raft (balza) for an authentic experience.
Afterward, take a 40-minute boat ride to your Amazon lodge. Go for a guided walk through local plantations and learn about Amazonian crops and traditions. At sunset, begin a night walk to discover the fascinating nocturnal fauna.
Day 4: Hummingbird Garden – Local Tasting in Pilcopata – Reforestation & Butterfly Project – Return to Cusco
After breakfast, visit a hummingbird garden to admire these colorful and delicate birds. Continue to Pilcopata for a tasting of authentic Amazonian fruit juices.
Participate in a reforestation and butterfly conservation project in Chontachaca. Learn about the butterfly’s life cycle and plant a host tree essential for endangered species. This symbolic gesture contributes to the regeneration of the forest.
