Description
The excursion begins with a convenient pick-up at your respective hotels, ensuring a comfortable start to your adventure.
From there, we head north towards the vast expanse of the Nazca desert, traveling along the iconic Pan-American Highway. Our first destination is the Sitio María Museum, an intriguing place dedicated to the life and work of Dr. María Reiche. This remarkable woman of German origin devoted over 50 years to the study and protection of the Nazca Lines, making significant contributions to our understanding of these ancient geoglyphs. The museum itself is housed in what was once Reiche's home for more than two decades before being transformed into a site museum in 1994.
At the Sitio María Museum, you'll gain fascinating insights into María Reiche's life and work through a collection of photographs capturing her extensive efforts in the Nazca desert. The museum also preserves her study cabin, where you can see her personal belongings, including cameras, measuring instruments, and other artifacts that she used in her research. Adjacent to the museum lies María Reiche's tomb, where she was laid to rest in 1998, a testament to her enduring legacy in the field of archaeology.
Following this enriching visit, we continue our journey to the metal tower known as the Mirador de las Líneas de Nazca. From this elevated vantage point, we will have a clear view of two of the Nazca Lines' most famous figures: the Hands and the Tree. Additionally, you'll observe part of the Lizard figure, which is bisected by the Pan-American Highway. Our knowledgeable guide will provide detailed explanations about the various theories surrounding the origins and purposes of the Nazca Lines, deepening your appreciation of these enigmatic creations.
Our next stop is a natural viewpoint known as the Hill. This fascinating location is where many of the straight lines converge, creating a visually striking and mysterious landscape. Here, you can take a leisurely walk and soak in the beauty of the Nazca desert, reflecting on the ancient civilization that once thrived in this arid region.
As the excursion comes to a close, we will transport you back to your hotel, ensuring a smooth and relaxing end to your day of exploration. This tour not only offers a deep dive into the history and mysteries of the Nazca Lines but also provides a personal connection to the life and legacy of María Reiche, a true guardian of these ancient wonders.
