Description
Enjoy a unique experience exploring the mysteries of the Moche culture, one of the most fascinating civilizations of ancient Peru. This private tour will take you to discover its art, spirituality, and history, on a guided tour of the most emblematic temples of the Moche Valley.
Your adventure kicks off at 9:00 a.m. when we pick you up directly from your hotel in Trujillo's historic center. From there, we'll head to the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna archaeological complex, about 15 minutes from the city.
Our first stop will be at the Paseo de la Fertilidad, a space where you can see replicas of the famous Moche erotic huacos, symbols of the power of life and nature. Here, you'll learn about the meaning of fertility for this ancient culture and its relationship with agricultural and religious cycles.
You can also try the traditional Chicha de Jora, an ancient drink made from fermented corn, which was considered the drink of the gods in the Moche era.
Then, we'll visit the Cerro Blanco artisan workshop, run by the renowned Trujillo artist Jesús Enco, who's dedicated his life to rescuing the original techniques of Moche pottery. You'll get a close-up look at how the pieces are made, from the modeling to the decoration with traditional iconography. If you like, you can buy a piece as a souvenir.
Next stop is the Huaca de la Luna Site Museum, a modern space that houses authentic pieces found during archaeological excavations. Here you'll see ceramics, textiles, tools, and ritual objects that will help you understand the daily life, religion, and political power of the ancient Mochicas.
Then, we'll head into the Ceremonial Temple of the Huaca de la Luna. With your guide, you'll explore its courtyards, plazas, and polychrome murals that still retain their original colors after over 1,500 years. Each level of the temple reveals a different aspect of the religious power of the Moche priests, who performed offerings and ceremonies dedicated to the god Ai Apaec, the 'Cutthroat God.'
Right in front of it, you can admire the impressive Huaca del Sol, which is thought to be the biggest adobe structure in pre-Hispanic America. Although you can't go inside, you'll enjoy a perfect panoramic view.
At the end of the visit, we'll head back to Trujillo, where we'll drop you off at your hotel. Throughout the tour, you'll have private transportation, a professional guide, and all tickets included, ensuring an authentic, comfortable, and enriching cultural experience.
This tour is specially designed for you, a lover of history, art, and ancient civilizations. Get ready for a journey into the past that will connect you with the grandeur of the Moche people and the cultural roots of northern Peru.
