Description
Begin your adventure with a 35-minute boat ride to your lodge, located near the Madre de Dios River. Settle into your room with a private bathroom and enjoy a typical lunch (vegetarian or vegan options available).
Visit the monkey house, where you can feed 4 species of monkeys living in the wild. Take a walk through the jungle, where you’ll see giant trees and learn about medicinal plants, including some that are 400 years old.
In the evening, go on a night walk to observe tarantulas, frogs, owls, bamboo rats, snakes, and other nocturnal animals with the help of a flashlight.
On the second day, enjoy an American breakfast before taking a 1-hour boat ride to the Tambopata National Reserve. Hike 3 kilometers (1 hour) along a well-maintained path to reach Lake Sandoval, where you can see monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, tropical birds, parrots, and mammals.
After the hike, take a canoe to explore Lake Sandoval. Look for wildlife along the right bank, including tropical birds, herons, caimans, and the giant river otter, a 2-meter-long animal representative of the Madre de Dios department.
Return to Puerto Maldonado by motorized canoe. Depending on your departure time, relax and wait for your bus back home or to your next destination.
