Description
Day 1:
Start the tour with pickup from Puerto Maldonado main office (Fauna slow coffe . Your guide will be waiting for you right in front of the exit with a sign with your name on it so you can find them easily. At noon ( chek in time ) We will go by car or boat to our jungle house, located on the Tambopara river. Check in to your cabin, lunch and at 3:30 pm then set off for your first jungle tour.
A walk along the riverbank, with a privileged view from a natural lookout point, will allow us to observe the sunset before embarking on our night hike, with a high probability of encountering tarantulas, snakes, poison dart frogs, and night monkeys.
Day 2:
On the second day, starting around 9 am, we'll set out to explore the river, searching for three-toed sloths and caimans along the way. This activity lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Around midday, we'll navigate downriver towards the heart of the Tambopata Reserve and Lake Sandoval, a prime location for spotting various monkey species and, with luck, a variety of birds, black caimans, and giant river otters. Throughout the day, we'll enjoy the palm-fringed landscape surrounding Lake Sandoval. The afternoon is chosen because the weather is cooler and the animals are most active. On the return journey, after walking the same 3 km back, we'll witness a breathtaking sunset on the Madre de Dios River. We estimated finishing around 6:30 pm
Day 3
Around 9:15 am, we set off by river towards the Machigenga family (pre-Inca culture). Along the way, we'll look for capybaras on the riverbank until we reach the Native house, where we'll learn a little about their local culture, idiosyncrasies, and adaptation to the modern world. It's important to highlight that our visit incorporates the sustainable aspect of our activity by involving more local residents who, with the influx of tourism, are gradually improving their quality of life compared to life within the community.
At 3:30 pm
We will do the only activity that will be by car (since if we go by river, the route will take 3.5 hours). After about 37 minutes by car, we will arrive at an old stretch of the river that has become a wetland managed by the community of Santa Teresa, which is committed to tourism as a tool for sustainable development. This place is where parrots and small yellow-faced macaws nest, it is the perfect habitat for large catfish to spawn, and therefore, a habitat for yellow-bellied piranhas.
Day 4:
On the last day, and considering that check-out is at 9:00 am, that day we will have a quiet and early activity from 5:25 am to 7:15 am, which is the activity to see small green parrots and macaws eating clay on a wall on the banks of the Tambopata River.
. By around 10:00 AM, head back to the main office from where you will be taken to the airport or bus station and your tour concludes.
