Description
DAY 1 Hacienda Lodge
Travelers will be picked up at the airport or bus station and taken to the lodge. We'll drive around the city of Puerto Maldonado for two hours, where we'll see various cassava, banana, and pineapple plantations. Lunch awaits you upon arrival at Hacienda Lodge. After lunch, we'll start our exploration. We'll hike through the forest to admire giant trees up to 30 meters high and explore the flora and fauna. That night, we'll take a night walk to observe a wide variety of animals, from tarantulas and snakes to insects.
DAY 2 Collpa Chuncho – Paradise Lodge
At 4:30 a.m., we'll set off by boat to explore the Tambopata River. The trip will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. During this time, you'll be able to observe wildlife such as jaguars, tapirs, and capybaras. From there, we'll head to the Chuncho clay lick, the largest clay salt lick in the world. There, you'll see three species of colorful macaws and three species of parrots. After observing and photographing, we'll head back to the hostel by boat. We'll have time to pack and have lunch. After lunch, we'll head to Puerto Maldonado by car. From there, we'll sail along the Madre de Dios River for about 30 minutes until we reach our second hostel: Paradise Lodge.
DAY 3: Paradise Lodge – Sandoval Lodge
After breakfast at Paradise Lodge, we'll pack up and head by boat to the Tambopata National Reserve (Lake Sandoval). There, you'll have the chance to observe animals such as giant otters, four species of monkeys, butterflies, and a wide variety of colorful birds native to Peru.
Accommodation: Travelers will have the privilege of staying overnight inside the National Reserve at Sandoval Lodge, a property belonging to a local family. For lunch, we'll try a typical jungle dish, the 'juane,' and in the afternoon, we'll look for animals in Lake Sandoval.
That night, we'll look for caimans, some up to 4 meters long, before heading back to the hostel for the night.
DAY 4 Sandoval Lodge – Palm Forest – Paradise Lodge
At 4:30 a.m., we'll take a walk through the palm grove to watch the macaws and blue-and-yellow parrots having nuts for breakfast. Then, we'll head back to Sandoval Lodge for breakfast and finish exploring the National Reserve. From there, we'll head back by boat to Paradise Lodge (our first accommodation), where lunch awaits us. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a canopy adventure. Here you can see toucans and other small, colorful birds. That night, you can relax in nature, share with other travelers, and enjoy your last night at the lodge.
