Description

Discover the Taricaya Wildlife Rescue Center, a renowned conservation project located on the banks of the Madre de Dios River near Puerto Maldonado. This center is dedicated to rescuing animals from illegal trafficking, habitat loss, and hunting, giving them the care needed before reintroduction to the wild. Your visit begins with a guided walk through the rainforest, where you will learn about native plants, medicinal trees, and the rich biodiversity that surrounds the center. The trail leads to a giant ceiba tree, where a canopy tower has been built. From its platform high above the forest, you will enjoy panoramic views of the Amazon and the chance to spot monkeys, toucans, and macaws from the treetops. At the rescue center itself, you will meet animals such as monkeys, tapirs, turtles, macaws, and even a rehabilitated jaguar, all of which are part of Taricaya’s conservation and reintroduction program. The tour also includes visits to the butterfly house and turtle breeding project, providing a complete understanding of the center’s mission.
