Description

Day 1: Journey to the Heart of Lake Sandoval Welcome to our office, then we’ll embark on a 40-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River. Upon arriving at the Tambopata National Reserve, we’ll enter Lake Sandoval in just 5 minutes. Enjoy a 3-kilometer (1-hour) hike where you may spot monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, and tropical birds. At the end of the hike, a canoe awaits to take you to our rustic cabins while exploring the shores of Lake Sandoval, where you might see tropical birds, herons, caimans, and the majestic 2-meter-long river wolf, a symbol of Madre de Dios. After a typical jungle lunch (juane) with seasonal drinks and a brief introduction to your room and lodge, we’ll set off in our canoe to explore Lake Sandoval for an intimate wildlife experience. Take a moment to relax on the canoe as you witness the unique sunset over Lake Sandoval, a tranquil setting with few other visitors. Join us in searching for caimans, as our guides will teach you how to find your very own black caiman. Finally, we’ll return to our cabins for dinner. Day 2: Wildlife Manifestation Rise early at 5 AM for a search for vibrant blue and yellow macaws, along with other species, during the unique parrot clay lick activity in the palm ecosystem. This experience is special to Madre de Dios, offering an incredible show of colorful flocks. After breakfast at the lodge, we'll look for giant river otters and visit the 30-meter-high observation tower at Lake Sandoval. You’ll also have the option to try piranha fishing while exploring more of the lake's natural beauty. Enjoy a typical lunch, followed by a guided walk to learn about our ancient trees, some over 500 years old, and medicinal plants. If energy permits, we can embark on a night hike to observe spiders, tarantulas, frogs, nocturnal animals, night monkeys, and snakes. Day 3: Giant Otter Observation At 5 AM, embark on a search for the impressive 2-meter-long giant river otters at Lake Sandoval. Experience the breathtaking Amazonian sunrise while capturing stunning views of the Madre de Dios River. Enjoy a final nutritious breakfast made with organic ingredients from our pantry before departure. Your guide and staff will bid you farewell, thanking you for visiting this part of the Amazon. You’ll travel back to Puerto Maldonado by motorized canoe, and depending on your departure time, you can relax and wait for your bus home or to your next destination.
