Description
DAY 1: CONNECT WITH TAMBOPATA JUNGLE
Reception at our office and departure to our lodge to begin the adventure. A 35-minute boat ride takes us to the lodge located near the Madre de Dios River. Introduction to the lodge and private rooms.
Enjoy a typical lunch (vegetarian or vegan options available).
Nature Walk: An environmental interpretation walk on well-maintained trails to learn about the forest's uses and medicinal plants. You may spot monkeys, squirrels, and tarantulas along the way (1.5 hours).
Around 3:30 PM, we board a boat on the Tambopata River to enjoy the evening colors during sunset, followed by a search for white caimans and capybaras along the shores.
Relax in our comfortable boat seats with panoramic views as we look for sloths and tropical birds. We’ll use our flashlights to search for capybaras, white caimans, and herons along the riverbanks, with a 90% chance of spotting capybaras, the world's largest rodent.
Return to our private cabins.
DAY 2: LAKE SANDOVAL (TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE)
The walk is 3 kilometers (1 hour) along a well-maintained path that connects to a well-preserved bridge leading to the lake, where we can find:
Up to 4 species of monkeys
Snakes
Tarantulas
Tropical birds
Parrots
Mammals
At the end of the walk, a canoe will be waiting for us to explore Lake Sandoval. We will explore the right bank to search for wildlife around the lake, where we may encounter tropical birds on the shore, herons, caimans, and the giant river wolf, which can grow up to 2 meters long—an iconic animal of the Madre de Dios region.
If we have the energy, we can take a night walk to observe spiders, tarantulas, frogs, toads, nocturnal animals, night monkeys, and snakes.
Return to our cabin.
DAY 3: PUERTO MALDONADO
Experience an Amazonian sunrise and prepare for departure to Puerto Maldonado. This morning, enjoy the stunning views of the Madre de Dios River while capturing the beauty around you. Savor a final nutritious breakfast with organic ingredients from our pantry before you leave. Your guide and staff will bid you farewell, thanking you for visiting this part of the Amazon.
You will travel back to Puerto Maldonado by canoe with an outboard motor. Depending on your departure time, you can relax and wait comfortably for your bus home or to your next destination.
