Located in the Pocollay district, the Peañas Site Museum was part of an archaeological project that brought to light a series of archeological pieces of unparalleled historical value, a set of 56 graves that belonged to individuals who lived, approximately, between the centuries XI and XV.
The Museum also exhibits varied pre-Hispanic elements, such as ancient lithic remains, dating back to 8,000 BC, in addition to exceptionally rare pieces, such as some teeth of Carcharodon Megalodon, the largest prehistoric shark of all time, which inhabited the Coasts of our country.
Peañas is an exceptional site to connect with the most remote past of Tacna, one that even goes beyond the origins of civilization in our Peru.
