he greatest extent of its territory is crossed by the Piura River, which is born in the Huancabamba mountain range. With an area of 35,892.49 km², which is equivalent to 3% of the total territory of Peru, this department is divided into 8 provinces and has a total of 64 districts.The provinces of this department are the following: Ayabaca, Huancabamba, Morropón , Paita, Piura, Sechura, Sullana, Talara.
