Inkaterra reserva amazonica

There are very few ecological inns that can be attributed as anecdotal history as Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica. The founder, José Koechlin von Stein, produced Werner Herzog's Peruvian films, including Fitzcarraldo (in which Klaus Kinski moves a steamboat over a mountain), and since establishing Inkaterra, he has sponsored a considerable amount of scientific research on the Place and its ecology. The point is that, although there are many eco-shelters that speak superficially about science and adventure, it has real experience.

Your stay is carbon neutral and a portion of your rate is donated to conservation efforts in Peru. The facilities are an unlikely mix of rustic luxury and camping tent minimalism: the thirty-five cabins are extremely comfortable but never too soft; you will not feel on a forced Fitzcarraldo type crossing, but you will find yourself immersed in an extraordinary excursion, deep within the Peruvian rainforest. And this is manifested in a very particular way if you stay in the Canopy Tree House, 90 feet above the jungle floor (with an additional bedroom at ground level, in case the height intimidates you).

The Canopy Walkway, an elevated bridge next to the inn, is open to all and allows you to admire closely the flora and fauna that inhabit the treetops. We know that this type of trip is not for everyone and if it is not for you, Inkaterra may not be the right place. The bedrooms are sublime, but the Amazon Reserve is famous for its excursions. Come prepared to explore the trail system and the Madre de Dios River, and your reward will be an experience that is impossible to match.

Directions to the hotel:
