As someone whose favourite seasoning style is Italian, but who also loves the intricate spice profiles of Indian, Thai, and Cameroonian cuisines, or the precise, ingredient-focused depth of Japanese and French cooking, I’ve found that the specific flavour profiles of Peruvian cuisine generally don't quite resonate with me. However, despite my personal palate preferences, I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional technical skill of the chef at this restaurant. Knowing my bias against local flavour profiles, I want to focus on the execution of the cooking, which was outstanding across the three dishes I ordered. The cebiche was incredibly fresh and hit the exact spice level I requested -- not overbearingly hot, but still carrying a beautiful kick from the chili. The grilled octopus was cooked to absolute perfection, just like how it is prepared in Sicily. The potatos that accompanied it were bland and dry so I dipped them into the juices of the cebiche and it worked. The grilled fish belly, which was highly recommended by our waitress, Flor Alvarez, was also brilliantly executed, pulled off the heat at the precise moment it crossed the threshold from raw to perfectly cooked. Interestingly, the complimentary sweet potato crisps came with three distinct dips that were surprisingly flavourful and deep. I found it fascinating that these dips actually carried more depth of flavor than the main dishes I ordered, and I enjoyed them immensely. Based on the sheer technical talent in this kitchen, I would definitely visit again -- next time specifically to see how they handle uni (sea urchin) and scallops! Oh! The Lucuma ice dessert tasted lovely!

Tried the ceviche trio my favorite was the ceviche classico. Good food, good service. Big plate. They dont do reservation. We went at around 12 pm. Put our name and was asked to come back after 1-1.5 hours. Then we went there and waited for approximately 20-30 minutes but they ask us if we want to prder drinks while we wait. Sangria blanca was my drink and it was good. Very refreshing. The seafood was really good and fresh.

A must-visit spot in Lima! We arrived 15 minutes after opening and only had to wait about 10 minutes for bar seating, though the wait for a table was definitely longer. Everything we ate was absolutely phenomenal. They bring the dishes out as soon as they’re ready, so everything hits the table incredibly fresh. The scallop dish was easily one of the best presentations of scallops I’ve ever seen, and the Bonito nigiri and tuna toro were massive standout. can’t wait to come back on our next trip to Lima!

La Mar, Lima — qué almuerzo. Prepare to wait, come early, and then just relax. This place is busy for a reason. We started with otoro, which was honestly unfair. Fatty, silky, ridiculous. After that, every other dish had to work really hard. And somehow… they did. Mind blowing. Ceviche de lenguado — fresh, sharp, clean. Pure Lima in one bite. Tiradito Nikkei — elegante, silky, with that beautiful Japanese-Peruvian touch. Nigiri: toro & concha — small bites, big happiness. Muy rico. Conchas bloody — sweet, spicy, bright, fun. Like the ocean with a wink. Anticucho de pulpo — smoky, tender, full of sabor. Properly sexy dish. Chita entera al ajo — simple, generous, garlicky, delicious. The kind of fish you keep picking at even when you’re “full.” And then came the arroz enchichado at the end. I did not expect the rice to hit like that. Deep, rich, comforting, amazing. La Mar is loud, warm, alive, and full of joy. Go early. Wait if you must. Order with love. Enjoy everything.

La Mar is a must when visiting Lima. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the ceviche and leche de tigre are absolute must orders. Gastón Acurio does an amazing job with all of his restaurants, but La Mar truly stands out when it comes to great ceviche in Lima. There’s almost always a line, especially around lunch time, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. The ambiance is lively and fun, and I love the open seafood market style decor with colorful details and energetic atmosphere. The service is always warm and attentive every time I visit. During my last visit, the manager came to our table to personally recommend the specials, and he was so attentive and welcoming. I wish I remembered his name because he really made us feel so well taken care of. My husband couldn’t stop talking about how delicious the food was. There’s a reason La Mar continues to be recognized among the best restaurants year after year. And their pisco sours are also so good.
