The department of Tumbes is located in the northwestern part of the country, on the border with the country of Ecuador.
Tumbes borders on the north with Ecuador and the Pacific Ocean, on the east with Ecuador, on the south with Piura and Ecuador and on the west with the Pacific Ocean.
The main agricultural products of the region are tobacco, rice, cotton, bananas, sweet potatoes and fruit trees. It has bovine and goat cattle. Its main mining resources are oil and gas. It also has deposits of non-metallic minerals such as coal, bentonite, salt, gypsum and alum (sulfates).
