Lake Chinchaycocha

Lake Chinchaycocha is located in Junín province and department. At 4,080 meters (13,386 feet) above sea level, and is fed by the large Mantaro River. Among its swamps, reed beds and islets live thousands of water birds, frogs, wild guinea pigs, foxes and viscachas that have adapted to the icy climate of the plateau.

Lake Chinchaycocha 

The area is well-suited for growing maca, a Peruvian root famous for its high vitamin content. The area has been declared a National Reserve.
