Description
ITINERARY Discover the awe-inspiring beauty of the South Valley of Cusco on this magical half-day tour that begins around 8:30 a.m. We will pick you up from your selected hotel in Cusco, and embark on a journey that will take you southeast of Cusco on the Cusco-Puno route. The adventure starts with a scenic drive of approximately one hour to Tipon, where you will be mesmerized by an archaeological complex consisting of 12 beautiful cultivated terraces surrounded by walls built with carved stones. The most remarkable feature of Tipon is its irrigation system which has been in use for centuries and continues to provide water for agriculture in the surrounding villages. Next, we will head to Pikillacta, an ancient urban center built by the pre-Inca culture of Wari. This historical site boasts over 1,000 buildings, including Colcas, squares, houses, temples, and streets, some of which are up to four stories high. The tour's final stop is the charming colonial town of Andahuaylillas, where you will marvel at the 16th-century Andahuaylillas Church, known as the 'Sistine Chapel of America.' Its wall and ceiling decorations, canvases with golden frames, baroque altarpieces, and impressive murals by the artist Tadeo Escalante are truly breathtaking. Don't forget to check out the famous Pentalingu gate, too! As the tour concludes, we will return to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at the city center around 2:00 p.m. Important tips This leaves you with ample time to enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring the various museums that Cusco has to offer, including the Regional Historical Museum, the Inka Museum, the Machu Picchu Museum, the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, the Society of Jesus, many more.Includes
