I’ve been to Peru many times and watched the Netflix’s “Street Food Latin America” episode featuring Toshi and this restaurant when it first aired, but somehow it always slipped my mind to visit. This trip, I finally remembered. Unfortunately, they’ve moved from their original location in Surquillo, but this new spot in Miraflores is cleaner and easier to get to. Like many other diners, I came because I found Toshi’s story compelling and wanted to support him, even knowing this probably isn’t the best ceviche in Lima (that title, in my opinion, belongs to Cevicheria Barra Maretazo). For my visit, I ordered the mixed ceviche instead of the famous “combinado”. Their ceviche is noticeably milder than what you’ll find at most Peruvian cevicherías, with a more conservative use of citrus. That’s a good thing in my book. Too many cevicherías drown their fish in lime, making it overly acidic and masking the flavor of the seafood itself. Al Toke Pez’s ceviche shines precisely because of its restraint. Toshi was there when I visited, supervising much of the cooking, and I even got to chat with him a bit in my limited Spanish. He’s every bit as friendly and approachable as he appears in the Netflix episode. I do wish they offered a few more items on the menu, such as white rice to pair with the ceviche. From a non Peruvian palette, the leche de tigre sauce is a bit too salty to enjoy entirely on its own. That said, the simplicity of the menu is also part of the appeal. They focus on doing a small number of things well rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

Delicious ceviche and 100% worth trying if you’re in Lima. The fish tasted very fresh, and you can see everything being prepared right in front of you. There was a long line and they do not take reservations, so be prepared to wait, but the food was completely worth it. Chef Toshi was the nicest, down to earth and attentive. Overall, a must spot for ceviche in Miraflores.

Wife and I went in February 2026 bc we heard about the hype and it was featured on Netflix street food series. It’s a small place so not many tables for seating which is cool, I love an intimate setting, cool bar with a few seats, comfy little space. We were seated really quickly for 2 by the bar and the service is excellent! Very polite people ready to serve. Ok the food, we ordered that famous combo with the ceviche, seafood rice, and calamari and it was an 7/10. The highlight is definitely the ceviche, it tastes SUPER fresh and the flavors hit you immediately so it’s a wonderful dish. The calamari was crispy but lacking a full flavor so a bit bland and boring. The rice was pretty good but also nothing to really brag about. Had a classic Inka Cola which I love. I would go back to try other dishes tho 🇺🇸

Walked right in. Very helpful waiters explain menu in English. 5 menu choices. Food came within 3 minutes. Ceviche so fresh and tasty. Fried fish and squid good but would have like warmer and thicker pieces of fish. Rice with seafood 10 / 10. With two beers less than 20 dollars Canadian. Wow.

I had heard great things about this small place, so I decided to give it a try since I was in the area. I paid $35 PEN for a ceviche Classico and $6 or $7 for a glass of chicha morada. The ceviche plate was large, but it was just okay-ish. I think it lacked some lime and possibly pepper. I can’t be sure what was missing, but it was missing definitely something. The sweet potato was actually good, and the little breaded and fried fish thingys were also good. However, the aioli on the side was more like a watery mayo. Overall, it was not worth it. The place was small, so you have to wait for a table, which luckily for me took about 3 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a great experience.
