An amazing experience. We got back from the huayhuash and looked for a place to celebrate as a group. Couldn't ask for more! Juan Carlos is an incredible host, chef and entertainer. The food was really good and so as the atmosphere. Couldn't recommend more!
I cannot properly encapsulate the fantastic experience that is dinning in this place. From the gourmet food, to the music, to the overall energy of the place. I don't want to add too many details because you kind of have to go into this blind and experience it as is. I will tell you that I came in hungry and in a slightly bad mood after a long day of hikes and blistered feet, and I left in the best mood with a giant smile on my face. For the price, this level of cuisine is fantastic, it feels like a steal. The entertainment does not take over the night, but adds a fantastic spice to the whole night. If you're in Huaraz and leave without coming here, you've missed out.
The owner is the chef, the server, and also puts on cultural performances in the form of singing. He took very good care of us the whole time, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the price of the meal came as a big surprise to us. We ordered a paella that was supposed to be for two people, and the price was 95 soles. The price was indeed 95 soles, but not for two people—it was per person, even though we shared one paella. What I mean is that while the food was very good, compared to other upscale restaurants in Huaraz, I don’t think it was worth that much money. At the restaurant, I spent 230 soles on two juices, an appetizer, one paella shared between us, and dessert.
Juan Carlos, the mind, talent and energy behind La Casita del Mago, is Maestro! He is Chef! Entertainer! And magnificent host! We had a wonderful and unforgettable evening! Everything was incredible and all was prepared with love and a personal touch. If you come to Huaraz, you must make this part of your experience! Thank you, Juan Carlos, for sharing your food, your songs and your heart with us!
